Setting: Edda [Midgir, Vanir, and Aesir]

Origins

As with all life in the solar system, the origins of the Midgir begin on Midgard. The race of Midgir is analogous to Humanity in our own world. Through countless cycles of civilization rising and falling, the varied nations of Midgard would eventually learn and master interplanetary flight.
While some attempts were made to settle the First Belt, these space-fairing nations largely focused on fighting each other for domination of the Solar-Cradle.

This time would be known later as the Solar Dark-Age

Ascension of the Vanir

At some point, either forgotten by accident or removed on purpose, one of the Midgir nations found ruins on Mimisbrunheim. Within those ruins, they discovered how to harness the powers of both Ethereal-Space and Real-Space.
Until then, the mortal races were simply bound to the realities, but now these Midgir could manipulate it.

Midgir scientists began tampering with the gene-sequences of their race, to tie themselves directly into the Divine Magic of the Bifrost. Conflicts known as the Eugenics Wars were waged to stop this process at its various stages of development. However, those Midgir scientists were eventually able to seamlessly mesh man with magic.
These hybrids called themselves the Vanir, and hid the secrets to their ascension. In a lighting-fast series of battles dubbed the Unification Wars, the Vanir cemented their rule over all Midgir-kind.

Vanir Civil War

In time, the unification enjoyed by the Vanir began to dwindle. Records, thought to have been eradicated, mention the finding of more strange ruins, like those found on Mimisbrunheim. However, these did not contain information. Rather, a prophecy of doom and destruction.
Vanir positions on how to deal with this threat differed, and factions began taking shape within their ranks.

Once rebellions among the Midgir sprung up, it became clear a decision needed to be made. Of the many parties vying for control, one radical group took center stage: The Aesir. This faction wanted to face the prophecy head on. But, to do this, it needed to wipe away any records of said prophecy in order to maintain order within their Midgir underlings.
With destroyed records, it is difficult to know exactly who fired the first shot. However, thanks to a defense pact made with the Gnomes, and their creation of the super-AI, O.D.I.N, the Aesir came out as the undisputed victors.

Vanagard was renamed Asgard, and the prophecy, now known as Ragnarok, as well as any information regarding the Vanir, were purged from history.

Aesir Today

The Aesir dominant government of the solar system, it rules over its citizenry with open and hidden forces.
O.D.I.N, the Observation and Defense Intelligence Network, is an AI used by the Aesir to gather information abroad and at home

The Einherjar, resurrected super soldiers, act as the brutal hammer of the Aesir government.

Vanir today

The Vanir remain on par with the likes of most Dark Alf clans and parts of Light Alf civilization, though their relatively tiny population makes them extremely loss avoidant.

Midgir who know of the Vanir often defect to their cause, but those who remain loyal to the Aesir government might find enrollment into higher ranks as reward. Though most never hear from them again, many theorize that those stalwart loyalists are inducted into the ranks of the Einherjar

Without the resources required to flee the system, Vanir forces have been known to more openly engage the Jotunnar.
Swaths of destruction along the north-western reaches of the solar system lead many to believe that the Vanir operate in/around Urorbrunheim
